Hand carved and shaped from fully reclaimed timber and painted with no less than 10 different finishing coats, Budd’s Baits are at the pinnacle of the hand made lure market. Manufactured in Zimbabwe by Greg Budd – an international contact lure designer for some of the worlds largest lure brands, Greg has now perfected his own premium lure designs and finishes that only available through us.
Tested in the game oceans of South Africa on monster Yellowfin Tuna, Monster GT’s and eve Tigrfish in the Zambeszi River, these lures can hack severe punishment. The stainless wire is a full through wire design and drop load tested to 200kg. The action is designed with single hooks in mind but you can use trebles and oversize split rings without killing the action.
Firstly, we thought there are plenty of poppers out there that push a lot of water and create maximum surface disturbance. While that’s good sometimes a little finesse is called for. We wanted our design to achieve both and as a result the Tokoloshe was born. Over 30 prototypes designs we created, tried and tested in some of the best fisheries in the world – pitted against Giant Trevally, Jack Crevalle, Cubera Snapper, Tarpon, Tuna, Mackerel and Wahoo.
What we have taken to market is the Tokoloshe! Known as a dewarf river monster in Zulu language our Tokoloshe is a diving popper that emits a loud, spitting bloop before dragging air underwater and giving a few realistic wiggles like a conventional shallow running bibbed lure. Fish just can’t resist this unique action. Truly a new popper that almost behaves like a skirted lure in some respects.
